"We got Oprah!" exclaimed Lady Gaga, as thunderous applause erupted from the throngs of eager ticket holders in Harvard's historic Sanders Theater.
As fans and supporters filed out of the star-studdedAskwith Forum launch of Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation, Oprah Winfrey took a few moments to reflect with the Harvard EdCast on her work in the field of education.
Obviously known for talk shows and media ventures, Winfrey is also a school founder in South Africa, tireless advocate for girl's education, and cultural influencer and shaper of society. It is no stretch to say that Oprah is a teacher... a teacher and educator to the world.
In this 10-minute interview, Oprah muses in her own words, with immediate reactions from the afternoon. She talks Gaga, bullying, education, inspiration, Harvard, and even ends up with a surprise gift underneath her chair. It's also worth noting that on a day compressed with countless events and media engagements, Oprah Winfrey was able to find time to sit down and thoughtfully discuss education. To the Harvard EdCast, this was one of our "favorite things."
The Harvard EdCast is a weekly series of podcasts that features a 15-20 minute conversation with thought leaders in the field of education from across the country and around the world. A production of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Harvard EdCast is a space for educational discourse and openness, focusing on the myriad issues and current events related to the field.
