In true Lady Gaga fashion, the pop icon and Academy Award-winning actress brought her signature blend of glamour, wit, and theatrical energy to The Graham Norton Show.
Attired in her best Harley Quinn-inspired ensemble with cropped, shoulder-length red hair, Gaga sat on the iconic red sofa alongside Demi Moore, Oscar-nominated Irishman Colin Farrell, actor/film-maker Richard Ayoade, Jack Savoretti, and Miles Kane to promote her highly anticipated role in ''Joker: Folie à Deux'' and its companion album, "Harlequin."
During her chat with Graham Norton, Gaga opened up about the unique challenges and joys of portraying Harley Quinn, a character beloved by comic book fans but reimagined in Phillips' gritty, psychological take on the Batman universe by saying: "Harley is such a complex character. She's wild, unhinged, but also deeply emotional and vulnerable," Gaga explained. "For me, it was about finding the balance between her chaotic energy and her deep-rooted need for love and acceptance."
She also shared that working with Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his role as Arthur Fleck (aka Joker), was an intense and transformative experience. "Joaquin is so dedicated to his craft, and being on set with him was inspiring. He brings out this raw, visceral emotion in every scene, and it pushed me to go deeper into Harley's psyche."
Gaga also opened up about her engagement to her longtime boyfriend, Michael Polansky, sharing the amusing story of how he proposed on April 1, 2024—April Fool's Day. At first, Gaga couldn’t help but laugh, assuming it was a prank. However, it was no joke, and after saying yes, she decided to keep the news under wraps. That plan fell apart when she was caught on camera introducing Michael as her fiancé to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gaga first discussed her engagement in an interview with Vogue US, where she revealed that her mother played matchmaker. Recalling her mom’s words, Gaga shared, "She said to me, ‘I think I’ve just met your future husband.’”
In a cut segment of the show that was not part of the aired episode, Gaga also revealed that she's "99% free" of pain from her fibromyalgia. As part of her healing process, she focused on removing negativity from her life and embracing the things that bring her happiness.
The disorder caused Gaga to cancel multiple shows due to severe muscle spasms and tightness, as we witnessed in her Netflix's "Gaga: Five Foot Two" documentary.
Gaga continues with the promotion of ''Joker: Folie à Deux'' with the upcoming premiere in Los Angeles, CA on September 30th next week and with her new album "Harlequin," where she will appear on The Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 1st and 2nd, where she will be performing and interviewed, and the next day for a performance only.
